Time traveler

Hello. I am from the future. When I woke up this morning, it was January in the year 2026, and here I am with you now.

I came to reassure you that most of the good things people envision today are going to come true. Agricultural science has continued to outpace population growth so hunger and disease are not as widespread as they are in your time.

We did not run out of oil in 1965 as some predicted. Billions of people carry little television sets in their pockets that can be used to make picture-phone calls to friends and family, or read a book, or listen to music, or watch news unfold in real time from the other side of the world.

Yes, evil men still want to tyrannize their people. But the world has not been turned into a desert wasteland. In fact the earth is healing from some of our worst abuses. Before I left this morning, I saw eagles flying overhead. I know that would be a rare sighting in your time. The swimming beach a few miles from here, the one that was closed in 1948 because of the raw sewage in the lake, has been reopened, not far from the treatment plant that processes the water to remove the waste before it re-enters the lake.

Color television screens can take up most of a wall; the biggest TVs are as big as a stadium scoreboard. You can cook a meal in 60 seconds if you’re in a hurry. In many buildings, like the grocery store, motion sensors open the door for you.

This will sound silly, but one of the greatest inventions ever was a kitty litter that absorbs the urine into clumps and masks the odor. You know how you can tell that a person owns a cat as soon as you walk through the front door? That not such a problem anymore.

There is hope for a better tomorrow. I am living it, and you will, too, in the year 2026.
