Interlude

Meanwhile, in a small town somewhere beyond the next stop …

“Guess how many pennies I have in my pocket.”

“Don’t care.”

“If you guess right, I’ll give them all to you.”

“Whoop tee do. Pennies.”

“When I was your age, one penny would get you a ball of bubble gum, five pennies would get you a candy bar, and 10 pennies a comic book.”

“That doesn’t do me any good — you were my age sometime in the last century.”

“What if I told you I have enough pennies in my pocket to buy you bubble gum, candy and a comic book at today’s prices?”

“What’s a comic book?”
