New Dog, Old Tricks

I mentioned the other day that maybe I would inflict my new song on you, like I did many years ago to my poor old friends and sweethearts. At least you have the option of not clicking the Play button.

This is not the song I was talking about the other day, but rather the title song of my new “album” in progress. Let me know what you think.

New Dog, Old Tricks

I pick up my guitar and play just like yesterday —
If yesterday was the day I learned to play.

I haven’t done this for awhile, and I hope to make you smile,
’Cause I haven’t seen you smile in quite a while.

This is what I wanted to do when I grow up;
First thing I had to do was just show up.

I got a new dog but the same old tricks …

I got a second verse to sing; it doesn’t really mean a thing,
But a thing doesn’t mean a thing until you sing.

It’s a simple little song, and it isn’t very long,
But it’s long enough to be a simple song.

This is what I wanted to sing when I began —
Singing all the special moments that we can.

I got a new dog but the same old tricks …
