Breathe in and take a good look around you. Have you looked at your walls and your shelves lately? Remember why you hung those or positioned those? And see the detail! — or perhaps you’re out and about: It’s astounding how much there is to see if you just look.
We wander through our lives in a distracted haze much of the time — things to do, places to go — but life can be so much richer if we just pay attention along the way.
You may have heard the weather won’t be just right or some other dour prediction about the day ahead of us. I say the world is an amazing and fascinating place, and just wait until you see what’s in store.
What’s it going to be? “Oh, woe is me, I have so much on my plate and I don’t want to do this” or “thank you, Lord, for this amazing day and all I get to do.” The schedule remains more or less the same, but if you frame your mind in a different way, the day just might be more pleasant.
I know what you’re thinking: “Who does he think he is, Harold Hill preaching the Think Method?” Why, no, but I did point you toward Harold Hill. If you’ve never heard of him, you’ll be amused and entertained I think, and if you have, I hope I planted a fond memory of birds in the sky that you never saw winging before or at least 76 trombones leading the big parade.
The day can be a burden or a gift or some combination of those two. The point is that what kind of a day it is can be an internal decision as much as anything. You can focus on the trouble right here in River City, or you can think your way to a better attitude.
