(Why do random song lyrics pop up at any particular moment and demand to be mulled over?)
Won’t you stop and remember me at any convenient time?
Why is it that memories catch us off guard and stop us in our tracks at inconvenient times? “I’m sorry, memory, this is not a good time. I have other things on my mind and I really can’t have you overwhelming my senses right now.”
But then there it is, not just any memory but that sweet memory of a time now passed, or that embarrassing memory you’d rather forget but here it is now in every excruciating detail, or that memory you thought you’d never forget but here it is years later and you hadn’t thought about it in the ensuing guif of decades.
When is it ever convenient to stop and remember?
Still, I hope sometime you’ll stop and remember me, at any convenient time — stop and remember when we laughed and enjoyed each other’s company and perhaps thanked God for a special person to share a memory with, and where is he now? What became of her? If we met again, would we take up as if years have not passed, and would we be friends all over again?
If nothing else, we will always have those moments to share, and it will always be worth stopping and remembering.
