The most delicious irony was that I put off preparing today’s blog for most of the day and part of the evening, and when I sat down to get it done, I saw that my plan was to adapt a journal entry from July 1 about procrastination.
With the First of July, we embark on the second half of the year, the half that begins with sunshine and summer, always a fine time to review our resolve.
I’ve been retired from the day job for about six weeks now. I resisted the idea of taking a vacation or long rest before diving into my “retirement” projects, but I hesitated to dive in anyway.
That apparently is my ancient foe Procrastination manifesting once again.
Procrastination is a formidable enemy. I’ve had my share of victories over the years, but I also have my share of unfinished business.
I have two somewhat conflicting goals — one is to finally defeat procrastination and finish my various projects, and the other is to be working on projects until the day my mortal vessel finally wears out, which means I will die with unfinished projects.
My immediate goals include not dying anytime soon because (Lord willing) I still have life to live — and if I had any sense, I would take “Lord willing” out from between those parentheses and put Him on top of the priority list where He belongs.
