It recently occurred to me that December is an Adventure.
Just as a creature is something that has been created (creat-ure), then surely an Adventure is something to do with Advent (Advent-ure), an experience based around the coming of the newborn king.
How does a mere mortal prepare for the arrival of a Messiah — especially an arrival that actually occurred 2,000 or so years ago?
With the preparing of gifts for the relatively new among us, with the preparing of our souls for the renewal His arrival represents and represented. Things changed so much when this baby was born that we reworked the calendar around the event.
When a woman is about to give birth, there is anticipation and, for her, the possibility of relief from the ordeal of the past few months, and once the baby arrives, nothing is ever the same as it was before. Imagine a world undergoing a change of that magnitude.
The child became a man who brought us a new way of thinking and a new way of living, through his words and deeds and a sacrifice beyond imagination — not to mention what came next after that sacrifice.
It was, and continues to be, quite an Adventure.
