
We’re closing in on the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, perhaps the favorite day of all who prefer to live in the light, because there is more light that day than any other day of the year.
What follows are the warmest months of the year with their heartbreaking approach of darkness as the days get shorter the closer we get to the autumn equinox.
There’s always something to remind us of the duality of life — in the coldest months we are reassured as the days slowly become longer and brighter, and in the warmest months we are warned to prepare because the days are getting shorter and darker.
Athletes learn not to be too thrilled about their greatest triumphs or too devastated by their greatest losses. They savor the moment of victory and move on; they absorb the reality of defeat and move on. Every life contains its share of victories and defeats; the key seems to be to keep moving.
In every life there are times of light and dark, heat and cold, victory and defeat. Where am I going with this? On and on.
