My next book

It’s been said that when an old person dies, a library burns. I feel that any death snuffs out a universe — years of experiences, decades of accumulated knowledge and wisdom.

I have spent recent months burning with the belief that we must finally stop condoning war, which is nothing less than a notion that we can settle our differences by killing mass numbers of our adversaries. I’ve started collecting some of those thoughts, the more recent reflections about peace and nonviolence as well as others I’ve written over the years.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this will be my next book. I’ve had this thought for a long time — there’s a reason why my Jan. 1 blog post was titled “Preface.” I have no illusions that I will sell many copies of this little book or that it will change the world in my lifetime, but I want to put these thoughts somewhere that they can be shared and, perhaps, taken to heart.

I truly believe I am not alone in these thoughts and that perhaps a book like this might encourage anyone who might be filled with despair that constant war is inevitable. People want peace, so we ought to be working together toward that goal.
