And maybe you will fly

Seriously, man, get serious.*

Don’t be frightened. Be excited. Fear and excitement feel like the same sensation anyway, right — a kind of tension and uncertainty? You have no idea if this is going to work, but you may as well try, right?

Would you rather crash and burn or spend the rest of your life wondering, “What if I had jumped off that metaphorical cliff to see if I could fly? Maybe I would have crashed and burned, but what if I had flown?”

Here we are at the precipice, and there is the sky. Yes, there are rocks below, but look at all that sky! What if you tuck the fear and the panic away in a private place and use it as fuel? “I had better get started pursuing my dream, or I might not be able to buy groceries next month,” and then work your butt off until you step proudly into the grocery store.

You have an extra booster if you believe in a powerful, loving God. You’ve heard what He said: With all the beauty in the world, the fields of flowers and the birds in the wild (again, look at all that sky), surely He will take you in the palm of His hand, too, right?

Fear not. Just get down to business. Sure, you’re scared, but think of the possibilities if you take flight. Isn’t it exciting?

Seriously, man, get serious.*

* “Man” is used in the sense of “Oh, man!” Or “Hey, man …” If you happen to be a woman, seriously, man, get serious.
