Reboot

While I should have been working Friday, I rearranged the furniture in my office and reduced some of the clutter. I suppose that IS working, if it gets me to the surface of the desk and positions me to work better, just as long as I am not rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I can see the two plaques again above the top of the desk, which were blocked by a couple of piles of books — “Today only happens once — make it amazing” and “Be silly sometimes.” I think it’s time to add a third, the one that simply says “Simplify.” It’s probably time I put the family photos on the wall — my late brother, my sister-in-law, my nieces, my living brother, Son of Red and his family, and maybe that nice picture of Red and me.

There are still piles of papers and books and records and CDs to sift through, but I can work at my desk again, and we build from there.

To repeat:

Today only happens once: Make it amazing.

Be silly sometimes.

Simplify.

Remember family.

Yep. I like those priorities.

Leap of faith

I look at the calendar and realize I have just 10 paychecks left before I retire from the day job, so I’m going to have to make up for having X fewer dollars coming into the household every month. I admit to being a little scared.

What is it that scares me? The possibility of not being able to make up those dollars with my other revenue streams. Not being able to pay the bills. Not being able to feed the dogs or give them proper care. Having to give up my home and my lifestyle before I’m ready.

Dying before I’m finished. Finishing. Finding out I was meant to do something else with my life. Good grief!

Then I ask myself: I do still believe in the God who feeds the birds and dresses the lilies of the field, don’t I? And this is still that God, isn’t it?

The Lord is my shepherd.

I shall not want.
